Week Two: Online Communities

Well, I have had a facebook page for some time now. I really like using it because I have been able to connect with family and friends that I don't get to see or hear from very often. I also get a little wrapped up in the apps they have...well Farmville is my addiction lol! I love being able to look at people's pictures and keep up on their lives in ways you can't do otherwise. I also enjoy being able to post events, I mean I sent out invitations for my baby shower and my daughter's birthday party on there, such a life saver and money saver lol. There are so many things to do on facebook, I know I am still learning, and will continue to learn more as I go along.
The Library I work for recently made a facebook page, and I think it will help us alot. We use it to keep people updated and informed on programming and other things going on in our branch.
Since I already had a facebook page, I wanted to try another online community to see what I thought of it. Ning looked pretty interesting to me, so I gave it a shot. It's a little confusing, but so was facebook at first. I think as I do a little more exploring I will figure it out. The main thing I didn't like was I couldn't add links on it, or at least I couldn't figure out how to add links lol. I do like the fact that you can personalize it a little more than you can a facebook page. I think Ning could be used the same way facebook is to promote our library.
All in all, I enjoyed the project this week, and I am looking forward to next week!
